Unit 8 · Project 2

Wrapped 10-inch Hoop

The hoop is the foundation of your dreamcatcher. You'll wrap it completely with yarn, fabric strips, or a combination of both — no bare hoop should be visible when you're done. The wrapping should be tight and even, with no gaps. You can use a single color for a clean look or multiple colors/materials for a more textured, layered effect. The wrapped hoop is also where you'll attach your hanging decorations at the end.

Objectives

  • 1
Entire hoop surface covered — no bare metal or wood visible
  • 2
Wrapping is tight and even with no gaps
  • 3
Starting and ending knots are secure and hidden
  • 4
At least one color or material choice that reflects your design intent

Materials

  • 10-inch embroidery hoop (provided)
  • Yarn, fabric strips, or ribbon for wrapping
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue for securing ends (optional)

Tips & Techniques

1Start with a secure knot and a small dab of hot glue to anchor it
2Wrap at a slight diagonal angle — it covers the hoop faster and looks cleaner
3Overlap each wrap slightly so no gaps appear
4Tuck your ending tail under several wraps before cutting — more secure than a knot alone
