Unit 8 · Project 3

Web with Integrated Beads

The web is the most technically challenging part of the dreamcatcher. You'll create the web by wrapping thread around the inside of the hoop in a star pattern, then weaving inward in a spiral, threading beads onto the thread as you go. The web should be taut and even, with beads placed intentionally — not randomly. Traditional dreamcatcher webs have a small hole in the center; yours should too.

Objectives

  • 1
Web spans the full interior of the hoop
  • 2
At least 5 beads integrated into the web
  • 3
Web is taut — no sagging sections
  • 4
Small hole visible at the center of the web
  • 5
Bead placement feels intentional, not random

Materials

  • Waxed thread or sinew for the web
  • Assorted beads (provided)
  • Beading needle
  • Your wrapped hoop

Tips & Techniques

1Wax your thread by running it across a candle or beeswax — it tangles less
2Keep consistent tension as you spiral inward — the web will sag if you loosen up
3Thread beads before you need them — it's hard to add them after the thread is in place
4The center hole should be about the size of a dime — not too big, not too small
