Unit 7 · Project 2
Fabric Swatch Log
Before painting your final canvas panel, you'll test your fabric paints on fabric swatches and document the results in a swatch log. You'll test at least 4 colors, 2 application techniques (brush vs. sponge), and 1 layering experiment (painting one color over another after drying). The swatch log is your reference for the final painting — it tells you exactly how each color looks on fabric, how long it takes to dry, and how techniques affect the result.
Objectives
- 1Test at least 4 fabric paint colors on swatches
- 2Test at least 2 application techniques
- 3Test 1 color layering combination
- 4Document each test with the color name, technique, and your observations
Materials

Tips & Techniques
1Fabric paint looks darker when wet — let it dry completely before judging the color
2Sponging creates a softer, more textured edge than brushing
3Heat-set your swatches with an iron after drying — it makes the paint permanent
4Note drying time — some colors take longer than others
