Unit 1 · Project 3Completed
Digital Vector Quilt Pattern
Quilts are one of the oldest forms of visual design — geometric shapes, color blocking, and repeating patterns have been used for centuries to create both functional and artistic textiles. You'll design a digital quilt pattern that uses your identity icon or elements from it as the repeating motif. The pattern must tile seamlessly and use your established color palette. This project connects traditional craft to modern digital design tools.
Objectives
- 1Design a pattern tile that repeats seamlessly in all directions
- 2Use at least 3 colors from your established palette
- 3Incorporate your identity icon or elements derived from it
- 4Create a final pattern at least 8x8 inches at 300dpi
Materials
- Adobe Illustrator or Canva (pattern repeat tools)
- Your identity icon file
- Color palette reference from mood board
Tips & Techniques
1Use the grid and snap-to-grid features to keep shapes aligned
2Test your repeat by placing 4 tiles in a 2x2 grid — check that edges match
3Vary the scale of your motif for visual interest
4Traditional quilt patterns (log cabin, flying geese, pinwheel) are great references
