Unit 7 · Project 4Final Project

Printed Portrait (3 + Artist Statement)

Print an edition of 3 portrait prints and write an artist statement connecting the work to your social theme.

Your portrait block becomes an edition. Print a minimum of 3 quality prints on good paper, sign and number them, and write an artist statement that connects the work to your social theme. The artist statement should be 150–200 words and address: what the work is, what social theme it engages, what visual choices you made and why, and what you want the viewer to take away. The statement is submitted alongside the prints as part of the complete work.

Objectives

  • 1Print a minimum edition of 3 on quality paper
  • 2Sign and number each print

  • Block printing ink
  • Quality paper

Tips

  • Your artist statement should sound like you — not like a textbook
  • Avoid describing what the viewer can already see — explain what they can't see (your intent)
  • Read your statement aloud — if it sounds stiff, rewrite it
  • The statement and the print should feel like they belong together
