Unit 5 · Project 1

Photo Story (5–7 Images)

Photograph a 5–7 image sequence that tells a complete story without words.

A photo story is a sequence of images that tells a complete narrative — beginning, middle, end — without any text. The story can be simple: a morning routine, a conversation, a journey from one place to another. What matters is that the images work together as a sequence, that each image advances the story, and that the viewer can follow the narrative without explanation. You'll plan your story in your visual journal first (storyboard), then shoot it, then edit and sequence the final 5–7 images.

Objectives

  • 1Create a storyboard of at least 8 planned shots before shooting
  • 2Photograph your story sequence — shoot more than you need
  • 3Select and edit your final 5–7 images
  • 4Present the sequence in order with a title and brief story description

Materials

  • DSLR or phone camera
  • Visual journal for storyboarding
  • Adobe Lightroom for editing
  • Canva or Adobe Express for final layout

Tips

  • Vary your shots: wide establishing shots, medium shots, close-up details
  • Think about transitions between images — how does one lead to the next?
  • Shoot more than you think you need — you'll have more to choose from
  • The title matters — it frames how the viewer reads the story
