Notan Edition (3 Prints)
Print a signed edition of 3 Notan prints on quality paper.
An edition is a set of identical prints made from the same block. You'll print a minimum edition of 3 — selecting your 3 best prints from a larger printing session. Each print must be on quality paper, cleanly inked, and properly registered. Sign and number each print in pencil below the image (e.g. 1/3, 2/3, 3/3). Your edition represents the culmination of the entire Notan unit — from thumbnail to refined design to carved block to printed edition.
Objectives
- 1Print a minimum of 6 copies and select your best 3 for the edition
- 2Each print must be on quality paper with clean, even ink coverage
- 3Sign and number each print in pencil: your name, the edition number, and the title
- 4Present the edition as a set — all 3 prints together
Materials
- Carved Notan block
- Block printing ink
- Brayer
- Quality printing paper (provided)
- Pencil for signing
Tips
- Consistency is key in an edition — each print should look identical
- Use the same amount of ink, the same pressure, the same registration for every print
- Print rejects are normal — that's why you print more than you need
- Sign in pencil, not pen — pencil is the professional standard for print editions
